An account of a journey down the Volga with a group of Moscow journalists, made after Gorbachev launched perestroika but before the collapse of the Soviet Union. Marq had been the Toronto Telegram’s Moscow correspondent twenty years earlier.

In 1991 he followed it with a short update for HarperCollins, Six Days That Shook the World: The Third Russian Revolution, covering the events that followed.
